One person died following a single-vehicle crash on Water Street in Santa Cruz around 2 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17th. California Highway Patrol said the driver of Traffic Unit 1 traveled at high speed, which caused him to lose control of his motorcycle before hitting a curb. Officials speculated that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the collision. The 54-year-old man was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
