Narrative

PAICINES, CA – A 77-year-old man died Sunday afternoon when a vehicle struck him along a highway in northwestern San Benito County.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. along Airline Highway, or CA-25, just east of Pinnacles Ranch in Paicines.

Police say that the pedestrian was attempting to open a gate along the highway when a silver truck hit him. Authorities identified the victim as Joseph Spencer of Paicines.

At this time, authorities are not referring to the crash as a hit-and-run, so it appears the driver did stop to render aid.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as contributing factors to the crash.
