Narrative

A single-vehicle crash was reported on the 2500 block of G Street in Merced on Tuesday, November 29th. Merced Police said the driver of Traffic Unit 1 was speeding at a high rate of 80 miles per hour and intended to pull him over. The driver of Traffic Unit 1, Joseph Gonzalez, 30, drove through several stop lights before crashing into a tree at Applegate Park Zoo. Gonzalez fled the scene on foot and was arrested. Police said they found two loaded guns in Traffic Unit 1’s vehicle. Gonzalez was charged with driving under the influence, various weapons charges, felony evading, and reckless driving.
