Narrative

FRESNO, CA – The California Highway Patrol confirmed that a Tesla driver was speeding and impaired when they hit a guardrail, leading it to overturn and claiming two lives Sunday. 

This single-vehicle wreck occurred around 1:30 a.m. on North Willow Avenue, which is south of Clovis North High School. After the motorist struck the center guardrail, they also hit another one. 

First responders took a third passenger to a hospital for treatment, where they are recovering. Their condition was not disclosed. 

The two men who succumbed to fatal injuries died at the scene and were identified as 24-year-old Jason Phillips and 32-year-old Chase McCutcheon.
