Narrative

INDIO, CA – A driver of a GMC pickup truck was suspected of impairment when he crashed head-on with a white Saturn sedan Tuesday, claiming the life of a 53-year-old man. 

This collision happened before 10 p.m. on Indio Springs Parkway, which is near the Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino. 

The sedan driver — Martin Gutierrez — and the passenger with him were both taken to a hospital. There, Gutierrez succumbed to fatal wounds while the passenger is currently recovering from serious injuries. 

Officials confirmed the GMC pickup truck driver, a 36-year-old man (whose name was not mentioned), exhibited signs of intoxication and was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center. 

The 36-year-old will be charged with murder and is being held on $2 million bail.
