Narrative
Four juveniles and two adults were injured, while two little girls and a 31-year-old woman suffered fatal injuries after a crash on I-10 East near Haugen-Lehmann Way before 7:30 a.m. in Whitewater on Sunday, May 14th. Riverside County first responders said that the driver of the black Tesla – a 31-year-old man from Indio, may have changed lanes on the interstate when he struck the 2001 red Chevrolet Suburban. The driver of the SUV then lost control of the vehicle, collided with the center divider, and overturned. The force of the collision caused six passengers to be thrown from the vehicle and another occupant to be partially ejected from the Suburban. The Tesla driver, the sole occupant, was unharmed. Four occupants from the Chevrolet – a 15-year-old boy, an 11-year-old girl, a 7-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old girl – were all hospitalized for significant injuries. The SUV driver suffered moderate injuries, and the front-seat passenger, a 41-year-old adult, sustained minor injuries. A 31-year-old woman, later identified as Cecilia Villalobos, 31, of Anaheim, succumbed to fatal injuries. Villalobos’ 8-year-old and 12-year-old daughter were also killed in the collision. I-10 East starting at Main Street, closed for several hours. All travel lanes reopened by 3:30 p.m.
