1 dead, 2 injured after motorcycle crashes into bicycle during pursuit

CARLSBAD, CA – One person was killed and another two were hospitalized after a motorcyclist collided with a bicycle while being pursued by an officer in Carlsbad this afternoon, according to FOX 5 San Diego.

The crash happened near Palomar Airport Road and Carlsbad Boulevard at about 1 p.m., as a California State Parks officer was pursuing a motorcyclist due to speeding and reckless driving.

The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old man, then collided with a man riding a bicycle.

The bicyclist, who was not immediately identified, died at the scene.

The motorcyclist and his passenger, a 22-year-old woman, were taken to the hospital for the treatment of severe injuries.

Authorities have stated that an investigation into the chase and the department’s pursuit policy will likely follow.
